Heartbeat consultation

The first few weeks of pregnancy can be particularly nerve-racking for some women. Sometimes, you may need some extra reassurance or peace of mind. For example, because you have experienced a miscarriage before or because you occasionally experience sensations that you cannot quite explain. That is why we offer the opportunity to come in each week to listen to your baby’s heartbeat at our “Hartjesspreekuur”.

During this walk-in consultation, women waiting in the waiting room are called in one at a time for a brief appointment to listen to their baby’s heartbeat.
Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, we will show or let you hear your baby’s heartbeat using an ultrasound scan or a Doppler.

The heartbeat consultation is not intended for physical complaints or other concerns. Of course, you can always call us about these, and if necessary, we will schedule an appointment during our regular clinic hours, where we can take more time for you. If you would simply like to have a longer look at your baby for fun, you can also book a private ultrasound scan with us.

Practical information:

  • The heartbeat consultation takes place every Monday morning at our main location, Waalreseweg 1a in Valkenswaard.
  • It is a walk-in consultation, so you can come to the waiting room without an appointment between 9:00 and 9:15 a.m.
  • You will be seen in order of arrival.
  • Who is it for? Anyone who has already had their first ultrasound scan!
  • Ultrasound or Doppler? Between 8 and 12 weeks, we will perform an ultrasound scan. No ultrasound photos will be given to you, but they will be available in your Orfeus app. From 12 weeks onwards, we will let you listen to your baby’s heartbeat using a Doppler, so no ultrasound scan will be performed.
  • Can I bring someone with me? Yes, you can. Preferably no more than one person.
