More info
Our maternity care during pregnancy is covered under the basic package of Dutch health insurance and is therefore reimbursed by your health insurer.
We have contracts with all health insurance providers, which means you will not receive a bill for our care — we submit these directly on your behalf.
Midwifery care during labour and birth is also fully covered by the basic health insurance package. Whether an additional personal contribution applies depends on the place of birth and whether there is a medical indication.
A hospital birth requires a medical indication. If you choose to give birth in hospital without a medical indication, with your own midwife, this is called an outpatient (or “polyclinic”) birth. Depending on your insurance policy, you may need to pay a personal contribution for this.
Whether additional maternity care is reimbursed (such as pregnancy courses, pelvic physiotherapy, or a lactation consultant) depends on your supplementary health insurance.
It may be worthwhile to check this before or early in your pregnancy so you can adjust your coverage if needed. For some types of maternity care, your deductible may apply, or a personal contribution may be required.
If you have a reimbursement policy or a foreign health insurance, you will receive the invoice after the postnatal period has been completed.
You will need to pay the invoice directly to us and can then claim reimbursement from your insurance provider yourself. To ensure smooth processing of claims, we kindly ask you to inform us of any changes to your insurance details as soon as possible.
